Bethesda knows how to do creepy goosebump-inducing horror; just go into one of the many ruins or caves of Morrowind. So Call of Cthulhu, a game based on the H.P. Lovecraft stories of the same name, is quite effective in dishing out moments where you jump in surprise.
Pros:Atmosphere: Everything is brimming with it, but does it make a good game? I think you'll know the answer to that when you get to the amazing chase level aptly titled "Attack of the Fishmen". Call of Cthulhu presents great voice acting, compelling plot development, truly creepy moments... It just works really, really well.
Story: I cared about the characters (at least more so than in other games), was interested enough in the plot to read every scrap of information that the books and notes peppered throughout the levels offered, and I was successfully weirded out by the residents of Innsmouth. And, once again, "Attack of the Fishmen" is an awesome sequence.
Cons:Fighting: You won't even get to wield a weapon until 2 hours into the game, but that's a good thing. My complaint here is that as ammunition became readily available, the quality of Call of Cthulhu decreased. The most memorable moments for me involved the lack of fighting; depleting my ammo supplies and being forced to run like hell.
Bugs: One bug in particular at the very end of the game forced me to enable God mode in order to avoid being crushed by random invisible objects. Besides that, nothing really game killing, but it's always a shame when a great game is sullied by glitches like AI that occasionally shoots the protagonist point blank and misses.
